About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Pignatello comes from a 0.5 ha vineyard in western Sicily near Marsala. The 20-year-old vines grow on level, medium-textured clay soil and are trained on Guyot trellises at 3,500 vines per hectare. Yield is 40 hl/ha.
Grapes
100% Pignatello, vinified as a white wine.
Vinification
Harvest is manual in small crates at the end of September. The grapes are cooled and the clusters selected, then gently pressed directly as whole bunches. After spontaneous must settling, fermentation begins in stainless-steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and minimal sulfites.
At the September 2023 tirage, fresh must from Pignatello grapes of the following vintage was added in a proportion designed to lower the alcohol content and provide the natural sugar required for secondary fermentation. The sugar contribution does not exceed 15%.
Ageing
Fourteen months on the lees after tirage.
Technical data
Alcohol: 12% vol. Total SO₂: below 25 mg/l. Production is 4,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Coppery onion-skin in colour, with a fine, delicate profile. Lees ageing contributes freshness, finesse and minerality.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8 °C with fish starters or main courses based on duck or goose.
Label / history
First produced in 2010, Terzavia Rosé is the only sparkling wine in the range made from Pignatello rather than Grillo. The same variety used for Rosso di Marco is interpreted here as a traditional-method rosé, combining French sparkling-wine tradition with a Sicilian identity.
