Bees and the protection of biodiversity

The bee-protection programme responds to pressures on pollinators from indiscriminate pesticide use, intensive agriculture and climate-related disruption of seasonal flowering. With assistance from Apicolturaurbana.it, hives were installed on an estate where biodiversity work was already underway.

Pollination encourages plant reproduction between vineyard rows, supports soil fertility and increases biodiversity. Because bees are sensitive to environmental conditions, the condition and persistence of the colonies also provide a measure of estate health. Polline Moscato Passito was introduced in association with the project.
