About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards around San Marzano in Salento, Puglia, at approximately 100 m above sea level. The warm, relatively dry production area has shallow, medium-textured clay soils rich in stones. Vines are trained on espalier systems at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, an indigenous Salento variety once used primarily as a blending partner for Negroamaro and presented here as a varietal wine.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the second half of September. Temperature-controlled maceration and alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts last approximately 10 days.
Ageing
The wine matures in French oak barriques for 4–6 months.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. The complex bouquet recalls ripe red fruit and spices. The palate is notably full-bodied, opening with a smooth texture and continuing into a fairly long finish. The wine’s red-fruit character is complemented by polished tannins.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C with red meat, roasts accompanied by rich sauces, or moderately matured cheeses.
Label / history
Talò is a surname used as a collective tribute to the growers of San Marzano and their families, who care for each vineyard like a garden. The line brings together different varietal wines as an expression of that community.
