Cantina La Serena: Naturally Montalcino

The Mantengoli story is framed through three generations: a father whose vineyard work laid the foundations of a Brunello-centred estate, Andrea as custodian of the inherited patrimony, and a younger generation preparing for the future.

Andrea describes his contemporaries as an “in-between generation,” responsible both to their parents and children while facing changing climate conditions and the need to communicate a distinctive identity. Under his management, La Serena has acquired additional land, worked to revive a diversified farm and built a technologically equipped cellar without abandoning its origins.

The estate remains a small organic producer. Its quality model starts with agronomy—care, respect, experimentation and balance in the vineyard—before turning to oenology. Andrea rejects domination of the territory in favour of mutual cooperation. Winemaking should accompany natural transformation rather than impose passing fashions, an approach condensed in the phrase “industrious not-doing.”
