The visit to the cellar in Montalcino takes visitors on an experience that tells not only its wines, but also its history and identity

The Mantengoli family opened La Serena to visitors to explain the work behind each bottle rather than offer a tasting alone. The itinerary connects viticulture, environmental respect, family history and the cellar’s bio-architecture.

The early-2000s building uses natural materials, landscape-related colours and forms intended to blend into its setting. Vineyards surround the cellar. Inside, the route passes through production and ageing rooms before reaching an entrance dominated by a fresco that traces the family’s history from 1933.

Tastings of Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino take place in the tower. Its outlook encompasses Monte Amiata, Montalcino and Pienza, with Siena’s lights visible on the clearest summer nights. The visit is designed as a narrated experience beginning where the vine grows and ending with wine in the glass.
