About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The terraced vineyards lie on Pantelleria, in a volcanic landscape exposed to constant sea winds. The island has an extreme climate and sandy volcanic soils. The vineyards are farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles.
Grapes
Carignano, traditionally grown in France and Sardinia, develops a distinct character in Pantelleria’s climate and soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and gently pressed. Natural fermentation and maceration take place in a single 400-year-old, 600 L Spanish amphora buried in volcanic tuff. The wine is bottled without filtration or added sulfur.
Ageing
The wine remains with the skins in the same amphora for seven months, followed by a further two to three months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The extended contact with the skins gives the wine added depth and texture.
Label / history
Production is limited to approximately 300 bottles per year.
