About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Jalé comes from the historic Chardonnay vineyard known as Vigneto del Ventaglio, named for its distinctive fan-like shape. The south-facing hillside vineyard at Tenuta Ficuzza lies between 700 and 800 metres above sea level. It is planted at 5,000 vines per hectare, yields 60 quintals per hectare and has an average vine age of 25 years. Altitude and diurnal temperature variation help the fruit retain freshness while developing its aromas.

Grapes

100% Chardonnay.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into crates during the first ten days of September. Cold maceration preserves the fruit aromas, followed by static clarification. Fermentation takes place in used 225-litre oak barriques.

Ageing

The wine remains in the same used 225-litre barriques for approximately six months before bottling, followed by further bottle ageing.

Tasting profile

An intense, fresh and clean Chardonnay with a clearly fruit-led aromatic profile.

Label / history

The vineyard's characteristic fan shape gives Vigneto del Ventaglio its name.
