About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Nero d'Avola is grown in the municipality of Salaparuta, on southeast-facing hills. The vines receive plenty of sunshine, while shifts in temperature help keep the flavours balanced. The soils are gravelly limestone with many pebbles, which drain well and help concentrate the grapes, giving a richer, more focused taste.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes macerate on their skins for 12–15 days, with regular pumping over to deepen the colour and build structure.
Ageing
The wine spends about 4 months in stainless steel and oak barriques. This softens the tannins and adds gentle spicy notes while preserving the juicy fruit.
Tasting profile
Juicy and expressive, with a warm southern character. Ripe dark berries and cherries lead, with a light touch of spice. The palate is warm and approachable, with a soft texture and pleasant depth.
Serving and pairing
Suited to dinner with meat or pasta.
Label / history
"Luna" is the name of a Vaccaro wine range. The range grew from reflections on a wine that could express a rich, nuanced palette. The name draws on the Moon and its long-supposed influence on tides, plants, climate and human behaviour. The text links these ideas to the practices of planting, tending, harvesting and storing grapes.
