History
1997
Filippo Manetti made his first wine at age 27, purely for fun, from white Trebbiano grapes growing in the garden behind his house. He started from scratch, with no experience but a love of the land.
1998 onwards
In 1998 he first rented, and later bought, a small medieval farm in the hamlet of Campiume, in Fognano di Brisighella, on the lower slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. His passion for wine and cooking led him to sommelier courses, which drew him toward winemaking.
Today
Manetti runs an estate of olive groves and vineyards, with two farms: one in Campiume and one in Montesiepe, on the border of Brisighella and partly within Modigliana.
Terroir
The estate lies in the hamlet of Campiume, in Fognano di Brisighella, on the lower slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. A second farm is at Montesiepe, on the border of Brisighella and partly within Modigliana. Both areas suit Sangiovese, Albana and Trebbiano.
Winemaking
The estate has always been managed organically. The team works in the vineyard nine months of the year. Wine is made only from ripe grapes.
Wine has been made naturally since Filippo's earliest experiments, using only ripe grapes. Cellar work takes only a few weeks; the remainder of the time is given to waiting.
Philosophy
Manetti describes his approach as small-scale, handcrafted wines made only from grapes, expressing their terroir and telling the story of each vintage. He holds that wine is made in the vineyard, and that beyond a few weeks of cellar work, time is what matters most.
