Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto
1 cantina e 3 vini. In the hills south-west of Bologna, between the valley of the Reno and that of the Samoggia, the Colli Bolognesi Classico Pignoletto takes in all of Monte San Pietro and Monteveglio and parts of Sasso Marconi, Casalecchio di Reno, Zola Predosa, Crespellano and Bazzano. The streams — Samoggia, Lavino and Idice — run straight down from the Apennines and cut the land into separate ridges. Continua a leggere ↓

Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto in breve
Two landscapes alternate. In the centre and south-east, between the Lavino and the Reno, stratified sandstones with marl and conglomerate resist erosion and stand up as table-topped hills and rock faces with steep, wooded flanks. Elsewhere the ground is the chaotic argille scagliose, the scaly clays, with gentle cultivated slopes broken by badland gullies and frequent landslides.
The wine must be at least 95 per cent Pignoletto — the variety also known as Grechetto Gentile — and new vineyards are trained on trellises with at least 3,000 vines a hectare. The Classico Pignoletto was first recognised as a style of the Colli Bolognesi DOC in 1997 and became a DOCG in 2010; the wider Pignoletto DOC around it also makes sparkling, late-harvest and passito versions.
