Vineyard and terroir
Contrada originates in Bastonaca, Vittoria, in south-eastern Sicily. The organically cultivated vineyard lies at 230 metres above sea level. Its medium-textured red soils were formed from sub-Apennine sands of Pliocene origin and contain limestone, fresh clay and siliceous sand. The bush-trained vines are planted at a density of 8,000 vines per hectare and average 50 years of age.

100% Nero d’Avola.
Vinification
Harvest runs from late September into early October. Fermentation occurs spontaneously on the skins with indigenous yeasts.
Ageing
The wine matures in Slavonian oak casks, followed by further ageing in bottle.
