Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a 1.5 ha, north-facing plot at the estate’s highest and coolest point, 550 m above sea level. The sandy soils contain some clay and an exceptionally high proportion of active limestone. Planting density is high and yields are very low.
Vinification
Following brief skin contact, the whole clusters are pressed. Fermentation takes place in new, fine-grained French barriques with light toasting.
Ageing
The wine rests on its fine lees for 18 months in new oak barrels, without bâtonnage. It is bottled without filtration and with minimal sulfur, then matures in bottle for a further 24 months.
Label / history
The wine was conceived by Renzo Cotarella and Piero Antinori after Cotarella had pursued the idea for decades. Its Burgundian approach was modelled on the white wines of Corton-Charlemagne. The vineyard site was identified a decade before the source account. It is the only wine among the Antinori family’s estates to carry Piero Antinori’s name. Production is limited to approximately 5,000 bottles.
