Vineyard and terroir

Scenario is drawn from a small, north-facing terraced vineyard at 60–80 metres a.s.l., above Villa Donoratico and Viale dei Pini. Its outlook extends across the Ligurian Sea toward the Apuan Alps. The soils combine continental sands and flysch. Planting density is 6,000 vines per hectare and the stated yield is 70 quintals of grapes per hectare.

Grapes

100% Vermentino.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested manually. Fermentation proceeds at a controlled 16–18°C, partly in spherical 400-litre stoneware vats and partly in Cigare barrels. These special, untoasted wooden vessels are shaped by steam rather than direct heat.

Ageing

The wine remains for nine months on its fine lees in the same stoneware vats and Cigare barrels used for fermentation, followed by 14 months in bottle.

Tasting profile

A structured, enveloping white combining intensity with freshness and savoury flavour. Its style is intended to support bottle development.

Vintage notes

The inaugural 2022 season was among the hottest of recent decades. Vineyard work focused on improving resistance to water stress through soil management, fertilisation, canopy work and micro-irrigation. Rain in mid-August totalled 42 mm and helped the vines deliver healthy grapes without shrivelling. The northwestern influence, elevation, surrounding woodland and constant maritime breezes helped preserve freshness and acidity through ripening.
