Vineyard and terroir

Rovereto is made from an old hillside vineyard in the municipality of Gavi. The parcel is more than 80 years old and preserves an exceptional historical and genetic legacy, including pre-phylloxera vine material. Its low yield and demanding cultivation are accepted to conserve this heritage.

The name comes from Rovereto, the hamlet where the winery is based. Vineyards and oak woods surround the hamlet; the woods were formerly more extensive and gave the area its name. The age of the vines, distinctive soil composition, vineyard exposure and woodland-influenced microclimate shape the character of Rovereto Vignavecchia.

Grapes

Cortese di Gavi; the percentage is not specified.

Vinification

The grapes macerate for several hours at low temperature before soft pressing. Fermentation proceeds slowly at a controlled 18–20°C and may last up to 20 days.

Ageing

Bottled in spring, then matured for 12 months in bottle before release.

Technical data

Yield: 2 kg per vine and 66 q/ha. Harvest: 15–30 September. Total acidity: 5.2 g/L. The wine page gives 12.5% vol. alcohol, while the technical sheet gives 13% vol.

Tasting profile

Approachable upon release, the wine becomes increasingly enjoyable over subsequent years. Proper cellaring allows it to retain its character for several years.

Label / history

“Rovereto” is the name of the winery’s home hamlet and refers to the oak woods historically associated with the area.
