Vineyard and terroir
The vines are 10–15 years old and grow on hills rich in galestro, a slate and loam soil. The soil is loose and very well drained. In rainy seasons it keeps water from collecting around the roots; in dry weather it encourages the roots to grow deeper in search of moisture and nutrients.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed. The must is vinified in stainless steel tanks with 15 days of maceration, during which daily pumping over keeps it in regular contact with the skins to extract aroma, colour and fine tannin. Malolactic fermentation follows, softening the wine and adding aromatic complexity.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in Slavonian oak barrels of various sizes. It then stabilises for a further 3 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Youthful energy and freshness combined with excellent structure and elegance. Maturation in oak makes the wine smoother.
Label / history
It is often called the "younger version" of Brunello, made from the same Sangiovese grown on the same land, with a style of its own.
