Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the commune of Rai di San Polo di Piave, in the province of Treviso, Veneto. The vineyards lie at 30 metres above sea level on sandy clay soils mixed with gravel. Planting density is 5,100 vines per hectare, with yields of no more than 110 tonnes per hectare.
Vinification
The Pinot Grigio is harvested by hand in early September and gently pressed. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. It is not aged, and is stabilized in stainless-steel tanks for 2 months.
Label / history
The estate, Azienda Agricola Ca'di Rajo (also known as Ca'di Raja), stands on fertile land near the Piave River in the province of Treviso. Rai was anciently known as Rajo. The family-run estate also holds a church with an image of the Madonna del Carmine and the ruins of a monastery built in 1507. In 1960 the Cecchetto and Giol families planted vineyards on previously unused land; the estate has been fully owned by the Cecchetto family since 1972. It is long known for sparkling wines from Prosecco grapes, and for wines from Raboso, a native Veneto variety. A modern winery was built without disturbing the traditional architecture of the Piave area, and its cellars are surrounded by vineyards.
