Vineyard and terroir
The Carignano is grown in Sardinia, in Capichera's own vineyards at Olbia and Palau. Across its holdings in the north of the island (more than 50 hectares), the soils are firm granite mixed with sandy rock. Carignano arrived on the island with the Phoenicians and has adapted well to the summer heat, harsh climate and strong winds.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation and skin contact last 3 weeks in stainless steel tanks, which preserves the variety's fresh fruit and expressive aroma. Fermentation at the estate is fully computer-controlled.
Ageing
6 months in concrete and steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Balanced on the palate, with an inviting aroma. The style is more powerful and straightforward, with plenty of freshness and a bright, lively bouquet. It keeps its authentic character and is food-friendly.
Label / history
"Lianti" means "East", pointing to where the sun rises. It was first made in 2009. Capichera's first wine, a Vermentino, was released in 1981. The estate is in Gallura, near Arzachena in northern Sardinia. The Ragnedda family's grandfather bought the land in the early twentieth century, and Mario and Fabrizio Ragnedda turned to commercial winemaking in the 1970s. The estate works only with native varieties. It makes five white wines from Vermentino and three red wines from Carignano, at least 300000 bottles a year. It uses its own grapes plus some bought from neighbouring growers, and a new winery was built in 2001.
