Vineyard and terroir
Capichera manages more than 50 hectares of vineyards in the north of Sardinia, in the Gallura region near Arzachena. The soils are firm granite mixed with sandy rock. Carignano, brought to the island by the Phoenicians, is well adapted to the summer heat, harsh climate and strong winds. The estate makes its wines from its own harvest, supplemented by some grapes bought from neighbouring growers.
Vinification
The red grapes are vinified by the white-wine method. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, and the whole process is computer-controlled in the winery built in 2001.
Tasting profile
An elegant dry rosé. The white-wine vinification of red grapes gives an unusually aromatic wine, an original take on rosé.
Label / history
The name, written "Tambe" in the text, means "That's how it is" in the ancient Gallurese dialect. Capichera began when the grandfather of the present owners bought land near Arzachena at the start of the twentieth century. The Ragnedda family first made wine only for their own use. In the 1970s Mario and Fabrizio Ragnedda began producing commercially. The first wine under the Capichera name, a Vermentino, was released in 1981. The estate now makes five white wines from Vermentino and three red wines from Carignano, with annual production of at least 300,000 bottles. The owners work only with native varieties and have stopped growing international ones or adding them to blends.
