Storia
Caprili was founded by Alfo Bartolommei in 1965. That same year, he planted the estate's first vineyard, which is still known as "Madre" today.
Terroir
The Caprili estate covers 58 hectares in the southwestern part of the municipality of Montalcino, on a hillside that slopes down toward the Orcia and Ombrone rivers.
Vinificazione
Of the estate's 58 hectares, 15.5 hectares are planted with vines. Sangiovese Grosso is grown on 14.5 hectares for Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino. Trebbiano, Malvasia and Vermentino occupy 0.8 hectares and are used for S.Antimo Bianco, while Moscadello is grown on the remaining 0.7 hectares for Moscadello di Montalcino. The estate also has four hectares of olive groves used to produce extra virgin olive oil classified as "Denominazione di Origine Protetta Terre di Siena."
During winemaking, the team follows a natural approach, adding neither yeast nor other external corrective agents to the must. Instead, they rely on the yeasts naturally present on the grapes, giving the wines a clear and easily recognizable sense of place.
Filosofia
The winery follows a natural approach in the cellar, relying on native yeasts rather than added yeast or corrective agents, aiming to give the wines a clear and easily recognizable sense of place.
