Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the estate’s vineyards in Tuscany, around Castellina in Chianti in the Siena area of Chianti Classico. The vineyards lie at approximately 250 metres above sea level, surrounded by woodland and shrubs in a ravine that helps balance moisture and warmth. High-density planting, modern vineyard management, low yields and strict harvest selection are employed.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-September and undergo a brief skin maceration. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine rests in stainless-steel vats for five months.
Tasting profile
Elegant in character.
Label / history
The Andrighetti family, which also owns Fattoria Campoperi, purchased the 380 ha Il Casale estate in 1996. During its restoration, the family retained the existing native Sangiovese and Canaiolo vines and introduced varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Over the following four years, more than two-thirds of the estate’s 90 ha of vineyards were replanted at high density with a new vineyard-management system and low yields. Winemaker Attilio Pagli and agronomist Stefano Porcinai worked with the estate’s young team.
The seventeenth-century manor house now accommodates the offices and ageing cellars, which contain large oak casks and modern French barriques. The estate currently produces around 100,000 bottles annually, with production increasing as the newer vineyards come into bearing.
