Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese is carefully selected from the Paronza vineyard in Castellina in Chianti. The estate’s vineyards lie at about 250 m above sea level, surrounded by woodland and scrub in a ravine that balances moisture and warmth. More than two-thirds of its 90 ha of vineyards were replanted over four years at high density and are managed for low yields.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September. Traditional red-wine vinification and maceration take place under controlled temperatures.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in French Allier oak barrels, followed by six months in barriques and six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Firm, with an notably solid structure and balanced flavour. The bouquet is refined and aromatic.
Label / history
The Andrighetti family, also owners of Fattoria Campoperi, acquired the Il Casale estate in 1996. They restored the property, retaining established plantings of native varieties, particularly Sangiovese and Canaiolo, while introducing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Winemaker Attilio Pagli and agronomist Stefano Porcinai assisted the newly established winery’s young team.
The estate occupies 380 ha among the hills around Castellina in Chianti, in the Siena area of Chianti Classico. Its 17th-century manor house contains the offices and ageing cellars, which are fitted with large oak casks and modern French barriques. Estate production is about 100,000 bottles annually and is increasing as the newer vineyards enter production.
