Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Cerretalto vineyard in eastern Montalcino, a natural amphitheatre overlooking the Asso River. The vineyard’s microclimate, soils and low yields contribute to the wine’s distinctive character and balance.
Vinification
Sangiovese ripens late here, and the grapes are harvested in the first half of October. Spontaneous fermentation and approximately 32 days of maceration take place in conical wooden vats.
Ageing
The wine matures for 36 months in small French oak barrels, followed by 24 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Distinctive in character, with a balanced palate.
Serving and pairing
Decant for at least three hours before serving.
Vintage notes
The 2016 winter was mild, with abundant rain in February. Budbreak occurred in the first week of April, followed by flowering in the final week of May under sunny conditions favourable to fruit set. Summer remained generally mild, with only light rainfall and no unusually intense heat. The grapes ripened slowly and evenly, aided by marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures before harvest. The vintage is expected to reach peak maturity between 2025 and 2050.
Label / history
Cerretalto is made only in vintages when the harvest meets the required standard.
