Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Pietradonice and Le Cetine vineyards south of Montalcino, selected after a study of the land and its exposures. The vineyards use a scientifically designed vine-training system, a specialised rootstock technique and carefully controlled crop density.
Grapes
The vines are a selection cloned from the Sangiovese grown at Cerretalto.
Vinification
For the 2017 vintage, the grapes were harvested by hand in mid-September, destemmed and sorted with an optical selector. Maceration and fermentation lasted 24 days in temperature-controlled, open, cone-shaped vats.
Ageing
The wine matured for 30 months in 600-litre oak barrels, followed by 18 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Mediterranean aromas are accompanied by great finesse and a firm tannic structure.
Vintage notes
The 2017 growing season was among the most unusual of recent years in Brunello di Montalcino. A mild winter brought above-average temperatures and little rainfall, causing early budbreak. Warm, dry conditions in March accelerated the growing cycle. Temperatures fell to almost 0 °C at the end of April, but the vines escaped damage. Flowering was completed in favourable conditions in June, while July and August were dry and warmer than average. Yields were slightly below normal, and the grapes were exceptionally healthy with an ideal level of ripeness.
Label / history
First released in 1993, Tenuta Nuova began as a scientific project at Casanova di Neri to produce a Brunello with pronounced character.
