Vineyard and terroir
The 3.5 ha Pietradonice vineyard lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, southeast of Montalcino, on land rich in onyx. The vines were planted between 1993 and 1996.
Grapes
Earlier vintages also included Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested on 2–3 September. Fermentation and maceration lasted 15 days.
Ageing
The wine matured for 18 months in 300-litre French oak barrels, approximately half of which were new.
Label / history
Pietradonice takes its name from the vineyard and its onyx-rich land. The first Pietradonice Rosso was released in 2000. Production in 2005 totalled 8,800 bottles.
