Label / history

The wine celebrates a myth associated with Lucolena. In a poem dedicated to Salvestro de’ Medici, Michele di Lando—born in Lucolena in 1343—told how Lena introduced Semele, daughter of King Cadmus, to Zeus. Zeus fell in love with her and chose a Chianti wood as their meeting place. Their union produced Dionysus, or Bacchus, who blessed the valley with grapes and gave it the name Loculena, interpreted as Lena’s place. QueRceto Romantic is produced in this valley. A 1579 work by Bernardo Davanzati Bostichi also referred to remarkable wine made from old vines in Lucolena.
