Vineyard and terroir
The estate’s historic 3 ha plot is near Canale d'Alba, at an altitude of 280 m. Its slopes face southwest and west, and its magnesium-rich soils are dominated by sand and iron-rich clay. The vines were planted in 1975, 1978 and 1979.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of October.
Ageing
After fermentation, the wine rests for 12 months in large oak barrels.
Vintage notes
In 2019, Piedmont experienced a long winter and late spring. Heavy April rain slowed the beginning of the growing season but replenished soil-water reserves after low winter rainfall. High temperatures in June and ample groundwater then accelerated vine growth, requiring close attention to vine health. The season’s hottest period came in late June, followed by milder weather alternating with rain. A second heatwave in late July ended in strong thunderstorms; the remainder of the summer was mild, with regular rainfall.
