Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from organically farmed estate vineyards near Orvieto in Umbria. The vines were planted between 1984 and 2023 at 320 m above sea level, with southeast and southwest exposures that provide ample sunlight and support ripening. The sandy clay soils date from the Pliocene and contain marine fossils, including shells and oysters. The vineyards have a Mediterranean climate and are frequently exposed to wind.
Vinification
The wine is vinified in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
Half of the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barriques before the final blend is assembled.
Tasting profile
Refined, harmonious and elegant.
Label / history
The wine commemorates 1212, the year in which the name of the site was first documented. In that year, the clergymen Giovanni and Pietro were entrusted with tending the vineyards of the Church of Santa Maria di Decugnano, formerly situated on what is now the estate, and used the harvest to make wine for the clergy of Orvieto. The hand on the label represents the two priests, while the eye in its palm symbolizes the protective gaze of God. First released in 1988 as “IL” Decugnano dei Barbi, the wine was renamed “A.D. 1212” in 2015.
