Vineyard and terroir
The Grenache comes from vineyards near the Decugnano dei Barbi estate and close to Orvieto in Umbria. The vines grow in a Mediterranean climate on sandy clay soils dating from the Pliocene era. The soils contain marine fossils, including shells and oysters, deposited by the sea that covered the area millions of years ago. The fruit is supplied by an English friend of the Barbi family who has worked with them since 2018.
Vinification
The entire winemaking process takes place in stainless-steel tanks to retain freshness and the grape’s bright character.
Tasting profile
The wine has a pale hue reminiscent of the summer sky shortly before sunset. Strawberry and cherry notes are accompanied by a delicate floral aroma. The palate is fresh and fruity, with a saline character.
Label / history
The colour of the summer sky before sunset inspired the name Tramonto d’Estate, Italian for “Summer Sunset.” The label depicts a red sun, symbolising the approaching summer, and bears an ancient Latin inscription: “(I), the sun, make the circles turn with fire, and I too turn.” The inscription is presented as a riddle connected with the summer solstice.
