Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are native and international varieties grown in the estate's own vineyards in Tuscany. The Dei estate has 4 plots totalling 100 hectares in the Montepulciano area; one third of the land, on its most suitable sites, is planted with vines.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation is spontaneous, in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, which preserves the purity of the aromas and the natural freshness of the grapes.
Ageing
3 months in steel tanks, then 6 months in bottle, which gives a more balanced, rounded taste.
Tasting profile
Fresh and elegant, with a soft texture, lively acidity and a bright fruity and floral character. The nose combines flowers, citrus fruit, peach and ripe pear, with subtle herbal and mineral notes. The palate is balanced and refreshing, with a clean finish marked by fruit and flowers. It keeps its bright aroma, freshness and light feel for 2–3 years.
Label / history
"Martiena" is the name of the road leading to the estate, of the family villa, and of the vineyard in front of the cellar, where white varieties were once grown. The wine takes its name from these. The estate bottled its first wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, in 1985.
