Vineyard and terroir
The vines have an average age of 15 years. The estate is in Campomarino on the Adriatic coast, where the climate is conducive to viticulture.
Grapes
Di Majo Norante uses the Aminea Gemina Maior clone. Aristotle traced this ancient vine to Thessaly, while Virgil and other classical writers recorded its distinctive qualities and identified five clones, of which Aminea Gemina Maior is the best known.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in late October. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 16–18 °C, followed by 24 hours of cold skin maceration.
Tasting profile
The 2011 vintage has a rich fruit bouquet and a balanced, fresh palate with a long finish.
Label / history
The Di Majo family has produced DOC wines since 1968, although its viticultural history extends for more than two centuries. Vines were already cultivated in Campomarino in the early 19th century, as evidenced by the ruins of an old winery beneath the town’s old central square. A new winery was built in the 1960s. The company is headed by Alessio di Majo.
