Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from approximately 5 ha of vineyards planted on clay soils at 350 m above sea level. The vines average about 10 years of age. Across the estate’s vineyards, organic and mineral fertilisers are used alongside sulphur and copper salts. Weeds are removed manually or mechanically, while foliage remaining after the green harvest is cleared to reduce the spread of infection.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in October. They macerate on their skins for one month, after which alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine matures in stainless-steel tanks and then rests in the estate’s cellars for six months after bottling.

Label / history

“Fabellae” is Latin for “fable” or “tale.” The name refers to the rediscovery of Tintilia for winemaking after the variety had been neglected following the Second World War because of its low yields. The Di Majo family has produced DOC wines since 1968, although its viticultural history extends to the beginning of the nineteenth century, as evidenced by the remains of an old winery beneath Campomarino’s former central square. A new winery was built in the 1960s and is now equipped with modern technology. The estate is currently led by Alessio di Majo.
