Vineyard and terroir
Campo di Magnacosta comes from a 1.5 ha parcel at 400 m a.s.l., on the lowest part of Tenuta di Trinoro in Val d’Orcia. An old stream once cut into the hillside here before disappearing underground, leaving deep alluvial gravel; the broader vineyard description identifies river gravel and silt. The name combines magna, meaning “eat,” and costa, meaning “hillside.”
The Cabernet Franc vines were planted with cuttings from a Pomerol vineyard where the variety had grown for three centuries. They were approximately 30 years old when the 2023 vintage was released.
Grapes
100% Cabernet Franc.
Vinification
The 2023 wine fermented in stainless-steel tanks. It was bottled on 18 April 2025 during the waning moon.

IGT Toscana. Production for the 2023 vintage was 2,262 bottles.
Tasting profile
The 2023 has a lighter red colour than the other parcel wines in the collection. Red and black woodland fruits mingle with spice and delicate floral notes. The palate is warm and enveloping, with bright acidity, a long, steadily developing progression and firm yet restrained tannins.
Vintage notes
The 2023 season began with January snow, followed by a rainy winter that replenished water reserves. An early rise in March temperatures awakened the vines, but a cold spring slowed growth; early-April temperatures struggled to exceed 10°C. Weekly rain continued through May and early June, and spring and early summer brought about 500 mm of precipitation together with severe downy-mildew pressure.
Summer arrived abruptly at the end of June, with temperatures regularly above 30°C through mid-September. A careful green harvest at the end of July reduced the crop, while leaves were kept to shade the small bunches. Cabernet Franc ripened slowly but ultimately somewhat earlier than expected. Magnacosta was harvested on 5 October with good yields, slightly above 2022.
Label / history
Collezione «I Campi» is a limited-production series created to express three individual Cabernet Franc parcels. Campo di Magnacosta inaugurated the collection in 2011 and has been bottled separately since that vintage.
