Vineyard and terroir

Malaroja is produced from Vigna Casa in Bolgheri. The vines are trained to spur-pruned cordon and yield approximately 800 g per plant. Harvest takes place by hand in early October.

Grapes

100% Malbec.

Vinification

The fruit is gently destemmed before fermentation with the yeasts naturally present on the grapes. Maceration lasts approximately 20 days in contact with the skins.

Ageing

The wine matures for 15 months in a combination of new and second-use barriques.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14% vol. Production is limited, although an exact bottle count is not specified.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red. The bouquet is balsamic, rich and sweet-toned, combining mentholated nuances with varietal red fruit. The palate is complex and structured, with polished, silky and enveloping tannins balanced by pronounced freshness. Varietal flavours lead into a long, persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 15–16°C. Pair with substantial red-meat dishes, well-aged cheeses, game and roasts.

Label / history

First produced in 2012, Malaroja grew from the decision to plant Malbec, a variety little known in Bolgheri. The resulting wine is made in limited quantities and conceived as a structured, harmonious expression of the variety.
