Vineyard and terroir
The Nerello Mascalese comes from a single biodynamically farmed vineyard at 850 m above sea level. Known locally as “Pirrera,” the site has sandy soils rich in volcanic ash and stones. After being abandoned for many years, the vineyard is undergoing gradual restoration by Eduardo.
Grapes
Nerello Mascalese is blended with 10% other white and red Sicilian varieties.
Vinification
The wine undergoes 15 days of skin maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts in cement tanks.
Ageing
It ages for 16 months in an old 750 L Slovenian oak barrel.
Tasting profile
Polished in character, with mineral notes and a pronounced aroma.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from the vineyard’s local name, “Pirrera.” Approximately 1,000 bottles are produced each year.
