Vineyard and terroir
The estate planted a small Viognier vineyard at Podere Poggio del Sole to create its only white wine. Vineyard work follows the same rigorous approach used for the estate's Syrah. Yield is approximately 50 q/ha from 5,000 vines.
Grapes
100% Viognier. Harvest takes place between late August and the first days of September.
Vinification
Production is entirely manual. The grapes undergo particularly gentle crushing and destemming followed by delicate pressing. Indigenous yeasts drive spontaneous fermentation, partly in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and partly in French-oak barrels.
Ageing
After fermentation, half of the lot moves to concrete vats and half to barriques. The wine remains on fine lees for several months, with frequent bâtonnage to build complexity and volume. Several months of bottle maturation are intended to bring it into fuller expression.
Technical data
Bright straw yellow tending toward gold. Alcohol: 13.5%. Format: 750 ml. The technical section gives annual production as 3,000–5,000 bottles, while the narrative describes approximately 3,000 bottles at most.
Tasting profile
An opulent, intense, deep and complex Viognier balanced by elegance and minerality. Aromas include white flowers, acacia, magnolia, almond blossom, banana, peach, apricot, mango, citrus peel, star anise and oak-derived nuances. The broader profile also evokes tropical fruit, cardamom, gooseberry and sage. Warm alcohol is balanced by freshness, acidity and mineral character. The palate is full and soft, with a long acidic and savoury drive.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Conceived for enjoyment throughout the year, it can accompany rich and spicy dishes rather than functioning solely as a light summer white.
Label / history
Viognier was selected as the estate's sole white variety because of its association with Syrah and the Rhône tradition. White Linfa and the red, Syrah-based Linfa are the estate's two smallest “garagiste” productions. Their shared name is an acronym formed from the names of members of Fabrizio Dionisio's family.
