Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in the municipalities of Tarcento and Attimis, at 200–230 m above sea level. The soils are marl dating back to the Eocene.
Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc and Picolit are each harvested separately by hand in early September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, at a controlled temperature of no more than 18 °C.
Ageing
The wine is aged on its lees and bottled in late spring of the following year. It then spends a further 3 months maturing in the winery's cellars before release.
Vintage notes
2019: The winter was unusually dry and warm in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with temperatures above 20 °C in February. The vines came out of dormancy early, and early-ripening varieties began to bud in April, about two weeks earlier than in 2018. Cold weather then returned, with heavy rain and significant snowfall in the mountains. Conditions stayed changeable and temperatures low through May, which slowed the growing cycle, and flowering took place in early June. July and August were quite hot, at times scorching, with little rainfall, though temperatures dropped at night. The grapes ripened well, but yields were around 20% lower.
Label / history
Winemaker Gabriele Tami presents Eclisse as an expression of La Roncaia's philosophy: a constant search for the right balance between authenticity and style, combined with a distinctly Friulian elegance.
Fantinel's owner, Mario Fantinel, previously ran several hotels and restaurants. He felt drawn to the land and established the Fantinel family business in Friuli. In winemaking he applied the same principle of uncompromising quality in everything, with close attention to detail.
