Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a mountainous area of Campania east of Naples. The climate is fairly cool, encouraging pure fruit character. Farnese works with small local growers whose vineyards stand on volcanic soils formed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius around 2,000 years ago.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and gently pressed. Maceration on the skins lasts 20–25 days at 26–28 °C. Marco Flacco created the Lava range with minimal-intervention methods intended to preserve the wines’ natural character and connection to their terroir.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 16 months in small oak barriques, some of which may be new.
Tasting profile
Concentrated and tannic, yet focused and refined, with a pure fruit character.
Label / history
Terre del Vulcano was established by Farnese as a project developed in close collaboration with small Campanian producers. Winemaker Marco Flacco was invited to create the Lava range. The handmade label is coated with lava stone, giving it a crystalline shimmer in the light and linking its design to the volcanic terroir.
