Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Nero d’Avola, Perricone and Frappato are grown at the Pianoro Cuddia estate. Nerello Cappuccio comes from the Cavanera estate on Mount Etna, at an altitude of 680 metres.
Vinification
Each variety is vinified separately to preserve its individual character. The finest resulting cuvées are blended after ageing.
Ageing
The separate wines mature in American and French oak barrels for up to 10 months before blending.
Tasting profile
The blend is balanced, with red-fruit and berry notes from Nero d’Avola, freshness from Frappato, spicy character from Nerello Cappuccio and elegance from Perricone.
Label / history
Salvatore Di Gaetano founded Firriato in 1985 in the ancient town of Erice, near Trapani. The surrounding area had Italy’s highest concentration of vineyards, but Di Gaetano believed its winemaking potential had not been fully realised. Under his supervision, Firriato expanded through new wines and estates while improving its methods and equipment.
