Vintage notes
Winter 2019 in Piedmont was long, with spring arriving late. Heavy rain in April slowed the start of the growing cycle but replenished soil water reserves after low winter rainfall. High June temperatures and good groundwater reserves then encouraged rapid vine development. The hottest weather came in late June, followed by milder days interspersed with rain. A second heatwave in late July ended in strong thunderstorms, while the remainder of the summer was mild with regular rainfall. The season brought the grapes to optimal phenolic ripeness, with slightly lower potential alcohol and brighter acidity than in 2018.
