Grapes
Made from Nebbiolo and Barbera.
Vinification
After harvest, the grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks for three weeks: one week at 28 °C, followed by two weeks at 18 °C.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12 months in small barriques, then for a further 12 months in large oak casks. The 2000 vintage requires prolonged bottle ageing to open fully and was expected to reach its peak by 2020.
Tasting profile
The 2000 vintage has a straightforward, clean taste, with concentrated berry and fruit notes accompanied by mineral, herbal and spicy hints.
Label / history
Angelo Gaja bought the vineyard from a church parish in Alba in 1964. The 1967 vintage was Gaja’s first release from grapes harvested in a single vineyard. The vineyard takes its name from San Lorenzo, the patron saint of Alba. In Piedmontese, “Sorì” means the south-facing top of a hill.
