Vineyard and terroir
Lagrein grows in sunny sites at 220–250 metres. The warm, deep soils are alluvial in origin, contain a high proportion of gravel and face south and southwest. This microclimate allows the late-ripening variety to reach full maturity.
Grapes
Lagrein.
Vinification
The grapes undergo careful selection in the vineyard, followed by gentle destemming and fermentation in open vats. Pump-overs and punch-downs are deliberately restrained to prevent excessive tannin extraction. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to tonneaux, described as larger oak barrels.
Ageing
Malolactic fermentation and 10–12 months of maturation take place in tonneaux. Several months of bottle ageing follow. The wine can be enjoyed young, although additional time in bottle makes it softer and rounder.
Technical data

Tasting profile
The colour is deep, intense red and can show violet tones in some vintages. The broad, intense bouquet ranges from ripe red fruit and violets to spice, fresh grass and cocoa. The palate has a decisive personality, massive yet velvety tannins, pleasing fullness and a long, enveloping finish.
