1859
The Gaja brand was founded by Giovanni Gaja, the great-grandfather of the current owner, Angelo Gaja. The winery has remained in the Gaja family for five generations.
1961
Angelo Gaja joined the family business after studying at the Oenological Institute in Alba and the University of Montpellier. He later earned a degree in economics from the University of Turin.
Later years
During his many visits to France, Angelo Gaja drew inspiration from both modern and traditional French winemaking techniques and began applying what he had learned to his own wines.
