Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard lies on a hillside overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast.
Vinification
For the 2024 vintage, Vermentino, Viognier and Fiano were fermented separately. Vermentino fermented in stainless-steel and concrete tanks, retaining freshness while gaining softness from the porous concrete. Viognier fermented in 500-litre French and Austrian tonneaux and small wooden barrels, which contributed a gently creamy texture. Half of the Fiano fermented in steel tanks and the other half in 500-litre oak tonneaux.
Ageing
The young wines remained for six months in their respective fermentation vessels to develop balance, after which they were blended.
Vintage notes
The 2024 growing season began with a warm, rainy winter, followed by a cool and similarly rainy spring. A hot, dry summer followed. Water stored in the soil sustained the vines during ripening, while dry air protected them from rot. Cool nights supported balanced acidity. The harvest was large and of high quality.
Label / history
Vistamare was Ca’ Marcanda’s first white wine and remains its only white wine. Angelo Gaja released the inaugural vintage in 2009. The name means “sea view” and was inspired by the bright sunshine, gentle sea breeze and calm atmosphere of the Tuscan coast. Production is very limited.
