Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from southeast-facing vineyards. The estate’s vineyards are in the San Giovanni area of Monforte d’Alba; it owns 5.5 hectares and leases a further 1.5 hectares. Yields are deliberately kept low to encourage fuller ripening and healthier fruit with greater resistance to disease.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in new French oak barriques. It is bottled in July and rests for a further year before release.
Label / history
L’Insieme is a charitable project founded in 1977 by eight small Langhe producers, each making an individual Insieme wine. From every bottle sold, €5.16 is paid into a fund supporting charitable initiatives around the world. Annual production is limited to 1,200 bottles.
Gianfranco Alessandria is a small family winery in Monforte d’Alba. Gianfranco inherited four hectares of vineyards after his father’s death in 1986. Initially he grew grapes for sale, before modernising the winery and acquiring winemaking equipment and machinery. The estate now produces approximately 45,000 bottles annually.
