Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Greppone Mazzi estate in Montalcino, Tuscany. The vineyards occupy high and middle hillsides between 210 and 460 metres above sea level. Their stony soils range in texture from clay loam to silt loam.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso, the form of Sangiovese known locally as Brunello.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats. Skin maceration is supported by frequent pump-overs and délestage. Malolactic fermentation and a period of refinement in tank precede transfer to oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for 36 months in oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The aromatic profile moves from dog rose, vegetal nuances and freshly baked cakes to gentle spice, quinine-like bitterness and citrus. A firm tannic framework introduces a rigorous yet elegant palate with considerable power and a very persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with roasted meats, long-cooked stews, lamb or game.
Label / history
In Montalcino, Sangiovese Grosso is traditionally called Brunello. Greppone Mazzi presents it as a powerful, ageworthy wine combining a robust structure with finesse and reflecting Ruffino’s longstanding cellar experience and close control from vineyard to bottle.
