Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Cusona estate, which stands on the banks of the Elsa River along the route from Paris to Rome.
Vinification
The grapes undergo cold maceration to preserve freshness and fruit character, followed by fermentation of the must.
Ageing
The wine spends several months in French oak barrels. After bottling it matures for more than a year in the winery's historic cellars, which develops a layered texture and depth of style.
Tasting profile
Fresh fruit character comes to the fore in spring and summer; in winter the mineral structure and depth are more noticeable. The texture is layered and the style deep. The wine is versatile and suits any season.
Vintage notes
Riserva is made only in the best vintages.
Label / history
The first historical records of the Cusona estate date to 994, when it belonged to the Bibbiano family. By the first decades of the fifteenth century the Bardi family, then owners, were growing vines at Cusona and making wine from Vernaccia. A century later Count Girolamo Guicciardini married a woman of the Bardi family, and Cusona passed into his hands; it has remained with the Guicciardini family since. Francesco Guicciardini, who served as Minister of Agriculture, managed the estate for three years from 1906. The Strozzi and Guicciardini families are associated with the Renaissance, through the Palazzo Strozzi and a historically documented connection to the Medici family.
