Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vines grow in marl and shale soils at 160 m above sea level. They are 50 years old and planted at 5,000 vines per hectare.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in early October. Fermentation is with native yeasts in concrete tanks, and the wine stays on the skins for two weeks.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12 months in 500-litre tonneaux, then a further 12 months in bottle in the winery's cellars.
Label / history
Annual production is 1,200 bottles. The labels are designed by Andrea Carciola, an artist from Livorno. His idea rests on the passing of time and on how it makes the same wine different from year to year. He created a composition of twenty faces, which are also displayed in the estate's tasting room. A different "face of the wine" is chosen for each vintage, changing from one harvest to the next.
