Vineyard and terroir
The Cortese vineyards lie at 250 m above sea level on the Piedmontese hills between Capriata d’Orba and San Cristoforo, in the province of Alessandria. The sunny hills are exposed to sea breezes arriving from the Ligurian Sea. Soils are clayey and marly/ferruginous.
Grapes
100% Cortese.
Vinification
The grapes undergo soft pressing. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperature with selected yeasts.
Ageing
The wine remains on its lees for approximately 75 days.
Technical data
Still white wine. Alcohol: 12% vol. Available format: 750 ml.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow with delicate greenish reflections. The nose is fresh and expressive, combining black-cherry and rose nuances with fine minerality. The palate has a balanced, well-defined structure, appropriate savouriness and good persistence through the finish.
Serving and pairing
Suitable with appetizers, fish dishes and white meats.
Label / history
The wine’s story evokes Princess Gavia, daughter of the king of the Franks, whose beauty and courtesy are associated with the name of the Cortese grape. Cortese was mentioned in a letter written by Marquis Doria in 1659.
