Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a mix of old and very old vineyards in the hills south of Montalcino. The sites lie at different elevations, receive sunlight until sunset and average 250 m in altitude. Vine age is given as 15–20 years. The mixed clay soil contains a high proportion of skeleton, and the vines are trained to a bilateral, balanced cordon.

A blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Merlot.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 18 months in small French oak barriques, followed by at least 6 months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 15%. Annual production: 5,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Limpid ruby red tending towards garnet. The intense, enveloping and fragrant bouquet opens with blackberry, plum and blueberry, followed by black pepper, subtle vanilla and dark chocolate; fruit and oak-derived notes are well integrated. The palate is broad and complex, with substantial body and structure. Its powerful tannins are softened and integrated into the body, while flavours recalling the bouquet carry into a very persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C in a balloon glass. Pair with red meat, aged cheeses and traditional salumi.
