Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Benevento production area, from vineyards at 450–550 m above sea level. Cool breezes arriving from the Bay of Naples have carried ash inland from Vesuvius over the centuries, contributing to the poor, volcanic character of the soil.
Grapes
Aglianico.
Vinification
The fruit is destemmed and delicately crushed. Maceration lasts 10–15 days at 26°C.
Ageing
Maturation lasts eight months in barrels. The technical information does not identify the wood, barrel capacity, or proportion of new oak.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red. The broad, deep bouquet combines sweet tobacco and nutmeg with violet, wild berries, and a flint-like mineral note. The palate is distinctly mineral, with substantial tannins and a notably long finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C with T-bone steak, pappardelle with game ragù, or beef Stroganoff with truffles.
